Ruth Roman (n e Gold) was born at Lynn at Massachusetts. The parents of her were Lithuanian Jewish Mary Pauline and Abraham Roman. As a young girl the carnival barker father passed away and left her mother without a choice other than to work as a cleaning woman and waitress to feed the family. Ruth was raised in a tenement community that was poor of Boston, Massachusetts, where she attended school. After only two school years the young woman left to pursue an acting career. The path was difficult to pursue. Even though she got a job as a hat check girl in New York posing as a woman for a magazine but no theater jobs was offered. Following a short stint as a club hat girl, she decided to return to her home in Massachusetts and leave her position. The New England Repertory Company was her first gig as an actor who was steady. The company paid her doing shifts during the day, working as an Usherette. She graduated with a certificate in drama at Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
